The New Seven Wonders of the World updates the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World with a modern list of wonders. The New7Wonders Foundation in Zurich, Switzerland, organised a poll in which 100 million votes were cast to determine the winners. The winners were announced on 7 July 2007 in Lisbon.

So who won? Chichen Itza (Chi'ch'èen Ìitsha') in Yucatán, Mexico; Christ the Redeemer (O Cristo Redentor) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Colosseum (Colosseo) in Rome, Italy; Great Wall of China (Wànlǐ Chángchéng) in China; Machu Picchu (Machu Pikchu) in the Cuzco region, Peru; Petra (al-Batrā) in Ma'an Governorate, Jordan; Taj Mahal in Agra, India. The Giza Pyramid of Egypt, the only remaining Ancient Wonder of the World, was granted an honorary membership.

The other finalists included: Eiffel Tower in Paris, France; Alhambra in Granada, Spain; Angkor Wat in Angkor, Cambodia; Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey; Acropolis of Athens in Greece; Red Square in Moscow, Russia. No flowers could enter the competition unfortunately.
